THE RAW BEAUTY OF NATURE ENHANCED
Mechanically polished concrete brings out the natural character of your concrete, revealing the aggregate beneath the surface and creating a durable, attractive floor.
Using specialist diamond grinding and polishing equipment, we progressively refine the concrete to achieve the selected level of aggregate exposure and sheen.
There are two main choices when selecting your polished concrete finish:
- Stone exposure: Choose from Marble Surface, Salt & Pepper or Full Stone Exposure, depending on the concrete and the finish achievable.
- Sheen level: Matte, satin or gloss finishes may be available depending on the concrete and polishing system.
Unlike grind and seal, genuine mechanically polished concrete develops its finish through the mechanical refinement of the concrete itself rather than relying on a topical coating to create the shine.
A compatible penetrating treatment may also be used as part of the polishing system to assist with stain resistance. However, no concrete floor is completely stain-proof or scratch-proof.
Every slab is different. Our experienced team will assess your concrete and explain the finish options before recommending the most suitable approach.
For customers seeking an alternative system, we also offer grind and seal finishes, which may be more suitable depending on the floor, intended use and budget.
HTC Superfloor system
NZ Grinders is an HTC Approved Applicator, specialising in professional mechanical diamond polishing systems.
The HTC Superfloor process progressively grinds and polishes the concrete itself to create a hard-wearing, attractive finish that highlights the natural character of the slab.

The finish achievable will depend on the concrete’s condition, aggregate and existing surface.
Full stone exposure polished concrete
Full Stone Exposure Polished Concrete
Full Stone Exposure creates a striking polished concrete floor by revealing the larger natural stones within the concrete slab.
Using specialist diamond grinding equipment, NZ Grinders progressively removes the surface layer to expose the aggregate before refining and polishing the concrete to achieve the selected finish.
Why choose Full Stone Exposure?
- Distinctive appearance: Reveals the natural colours, shapes and character of the aggregate.
- Durable flooring: A hard-wearing finish suitable for many residential and commercial spaces.
- Choice of sheen: Matte, satin or gloss options, depending on the concrete and polishing system.
- Easy maintenance: Practical everyday cleaning using appropriate neutral-pH products.
Full Stone Exposure is particularly popular where customers want the natural character of the concrete to become a prominent design feature.
The amount and appearance of exposed aggregate will depend on the existing concrete slab.

Moderate medium exposure polished concrete
Moderate Exposure Polished Concrete offers a beautiful balance between subtle and prominent aggregate exposure, revealing a natural variation of stones throughout the floor.
Using specialist diamond grinding and polishing equipment, NZ Grinders refines the concrete surface to create a durable, attractive finish that highlights the individual character of the slab.
Why choose Moderate Exposure?
- Natural character: A varied stone exposure that gives each floor a distinctive appearance.
- Versatile design: Complements contemporary homes, renovations and commercial interiors.
- Choice of sheen: Matte, satin or gloss finishes may be available depending on the concrete and polishing system.
- Practical maintenance: A hard-wearing surface that’s straightforward to maintain with appropriate cleaning products.
The final appearance and distribution of exposed aggregate depend on the concrete itself. Our team can assess your slab and explain what’s realistically achievable.

Salt and Pepper light exposure polished concrete
Salt & Pepper Polished Concrete is a popular choice for customers wanting a refined, contemporary floor with subtle exposure of the fine aggregate beneath the concrete surface.
Using professional diamond grinding and polishing equipment, NZ Grinders carefully refines the surface to reveal the smaller stones and natural character of the concrete.
Why choose Salt & Pepper?
- Subtle aggregate exposure: Reveals fine stones for a clean, contemporary appearance without the more prominent aggregate of Full Stone Exposure.
- Versatile design: Suits modern homes, renovations, retail spaces and commercial interiors.
- Choice of sheen: Matte, satin or gloss finishes may be available depending on the concrete and polishing system.
- Practical maintenance: A hard-wearing floor that’s straightforward to maintain using appropriate neutral-pH cleaning products.
Important considerations
The final appearance depends on the concrete’s condition, aggregate distribution and original placement. Existing surface imperfections or rain damage may affect whether a consistent Salt & Pepper finish can be achieved.
Our team can assess your floor and explain what level of exposure is realistically possible.

Marble plain exposure polished concrete
Marble Surface Polished Concrete creates a subtle, refined finish with minimal exposure of the stone aggregate beneath the concrete surface.
Unlike deeper grinding finishes, Marble Surface focuses on polishing the upper surface of the slab, allowing the natural character and colour variations of the concrete to remain visible.
Why choose Marble Surface?
- Subtle appearance: Minimal aggregate exposure creates a smooth, understated concrete finish.
- Natural character: Colour variations and surface features give each floor its own distinctive appearance.
- Contemporary style: Particularly suited to new builds and interiors where a refined concrete look is desired.
- Choice of sheen: Matte, satin or gloss finishes may be available depending on the concrete and polishing system.
Important considerations
Marble Surface is generally best planned before a new concrete slab is poured, as the quality of the original placement and finishing has a significant influence on the result.
Because minimal surface material is removed, trowel marks, colour variations, minor depressions and other imperfections may remain visible or become more noticeable after polishing.
Existing slabs, particularly those affected by rain damage or inconsistent placement, may not be suitable for this finish.
Our team can assess your concrete and explain whether Marble Surface is achievable or recommend an alternative finish.
Every Marble Surface floor is unique, reflecting the natural characteristics of the concrete itself.

COLOURED CONCRETE
At NZ Grinders we recommend Peter Fell, specialists in coloured concrete – you need to decide on the concrete colour BEFORE the concrete is poured.

BENEFITS OF POLISHED CONCRETE FLOORS

SUSTAINABLE.
As a material extracted from mother nature, you are standing on stone aggregate, polished to a mirror finish. No chemical surface. Using the Hiperfloor or Superfloor systems, we reduce the impact on the environment by conserving materials, eliminating waste, and utilizing as much of the existing site as possible.

DURABLE.
Polished concrete floors are the hardest, most durable flooring surface you can install. Your floor will stand the test of time.

ENERGY EFFICIENT.
Polished concrete floors help your house retain coolness in summer and warmth in winter, meaning you save on electricity use. Energy usage is decreased as the exposed polished concrete floor reduces heating and cooling loads from its excellent thermal mass and reflective properties.

ANTI ALLERGENIC.
Polished concrete floors have a non-porous surface that’s easy to clean, meaning there is no place for bugs or allergens to hide.

EASY MAINTENANCE.
Just vacuum and mop a polished concrete floor using eco-friendly, non acidic cleaners. Spills can be wiped with a soft cloth without staining.

AESTHETICALLY STUNNING.
Beautiful to look at with an unparalleled reflection of light, your floors will be a striking fashion statement.

HYGIENIC.
Polished concrete floors do not support mould growth. With such a low maintenance finish, weekly washes with warm soapy water are all that are required for cleaning.

HEALTHY LIVING.
The installation is odourless and environmentally friendly (VOC free) promoting a healthier working environment; with no immediate or continual toxic emissions.

THERMAL MASS.
Concrete’s thermal mass properties absorb and draw heat away during the day cooling the space, then disperse the heat at night, maintaining a stable natural temperature.
